Aternos GmbH history
Aternos GmbH originally started off with the development and release of Aternos (Now world's biggest free minecraft server host) in 2013. On 13 December 2016 the Aternos UG was founded. This was converted to Aternos GmbH on October 24 2019.

Aternos
Aternos is a free minecraft server host providing servers to those who want a server to play on with friends. These servers being fully customizable, DDoS protected and offering a wide variety of softwares to choose between. No payments and no hidden costs for you. Aternos is financed with use of advertisements.
exaroton
While Aternos tries to provide the best performance possible for free, exaroton is a paid service which removes a lot of restrictions. The idea is that you only pay for the time that you actually use the server and keep it offline when you don't need it. This is made easy with features like automatic starting when someone tries to join or an API.
